IND vs SA: Rohit Sharma Breaks Shahid Afridi's World Record For Most ODI Sixes In History (X @BCCI)
Ranchi: India's ace cricketer Rohit Sharma just added another feather to his cap by performing stunningly in the innings against South Africa in the first ODI on Sunday. He broke the former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi's world record for most sixes in ODIs by making three maximums at the JSCA International Stadium Complex on Sunday.
Notably, the Pakistan cricketer ended his career with 351 ODI sixes. Meanwhile, Rohit created history by making his ODI career’s 352nd maximum.
In today's match, Rohit, who was batting first, building a 136-run second-wicket partnership alongside Virat Kohli. Rohit continued to show his magic in today's match as in the 15th over, he hit Prenelan Subrayen for back-to-back sixes.
Notably, Rohit with his first hit, completed 350 career maximums. With this he became the only Indian batter to achieve the feat in the 50-over format.
Interestingly, when he was inching towards his 60th ODI half-century in the 19th over, he created the history of 352nd ODI six to enter the elite list. It is to be noted here that till date only three cricketers have scored over 300 sixes in the format. Chris Gayle is on the third spot, while Rohit and Afridi, with 331 maximums.
In today's match, Rohit’s time with the bat ended in the 22nd over when Marco Jansen trapped him lbw. He then walked back to the pavilion, with his score 57 off 51 deliveries. In today's match, Rohit knocks included five fours and three sixes.
